Hey my beauties,
Insects is almost complete, a few more vocal touches and maybe some synths and then we can mix it. My friend Conor, aka THE FREAK, has kindly lent me his ARP 2600 and his Roland Jupiter 4, so the track might sound completely different by the time I leave the studio tonight. But realistically it just needs some subtle touches, so I'll have to restrain myself and create a whole new song to try the synths out properly.
When I was work on vocals I like having the piano nearby to help figure out melodies and harmonies. On Wednesday night, while I was doing that I accidentally came up with a really cool piano line for the verses, quite unlike anything we've got on any of our tracks. It's a very Bach-style line and It totally changed the mood of the song, adding a load of sadness that seems to really suit it. I love these moments of spontaneous transformation that occur in the studio. It's been said that to get a good recording you need a real mix of inspiration and perspiration (mostly the latter), but it's those little moments of inspiration that turn something from good to great. I'm excited, this track has more potential than I thought, and like all our best new stuff, it feels really different to anything we've done before.
So, once we've finished this arthropodic track, I've got to move on to working on lyrics. This next track is our 80's Xmas ballad, I don't know if the world is ready for this, but we're going there. We even recorded a sax solo for it on Wednesday. Have we lost it? Possibly, but just remember, we are the Cobra Kai, we have no fear.
