2000-2009

With an eventful decade for Ash.... which saw the band achieve 3 UK top 5 albums, including a #1 with 'Free All Angels' (sorry Ms Jackson), before moving to New York, returning to a three piece, releasing their final album, setting up their own record label and releasing the groundbreaking A-Z Series... drawing to a close, here's your chance to vote for Ash's track of the decade.

Here's how it works:

  • Vote for 5 songs
  • You award each song you vote for a score: your 1st choice getting 5 points, your 2nd 4 points and so on with your 5th choice receiving 1 point.
  • The track with the most points, when voting closes, will be the Ash track of the decade!
  • You can not vote more than once and you can not vote for the same song more than once

@nitakhecill this is a vote for songs of the last decade (2000-2009). girl from mars, kung fu, angel interceptor were released in 1995, 1977 is 1996.

Im pretty happy that Orpheus is so high - that song seems to have so much meaning for me (as many others on the list do too!).

Its nice to see that there is plenty of new stuff faring well too - The dead disciples got my vote

BTW - where is everyone getting the letter avatars from? (I have only recently rejoined this site - note... not rejoined as an Ash fan - I have been a fan since I bought the JJJ live at the wireless CD oh so many years ago....). I can say that I saw them the last time they played in the Southern Hemisphere! (Singapore at the international beer festival.... ) Coming back to Australia anytime soon???

If I remember correctly Warmer Than Fire was written by Steve Ludwin ?!?! of Little Hell but he gave the song to Ash for them to keep/record/have etc.... I think!

It is a good song Jed and for some reason it seems that Burn Baby Burn and Shining light are two songs that I like but rarely listen to. But the A-Z and TOTI stuff are some of the best I've ever heard (as well as 1977 and many B-sides)

You are voting for best ash song of the decade. the answer is 'stay in love forever'. I've noticed a few of you have mistakingly put other answers. Its easy to do I guess what with all the new year frivolity and stuff!

Seriously though. stay in love forever.

Yes, 'shining light' is brilliant and it won a shiny award, but a shiny award isnt going to save your soul from eternal damnation because you've not voted for 'stay in love forever' is it?

please do me ths one favour and dig out the song and give it another listen. it SHITS all over 'burn baby burn'. Yes, I know BBB is hella popular and its one of the songs people know them for but I reckon its a noose around the band's neck. I reckon every time they play it they know they are appealing to the lowest common denominator - the casual ash fan.

BURN BABY BURN IS ASH BY NUMBERS.

if you fed 1977 through a computer and asked it what the 'casual ash fan' would want to hear on a sunday, drinking tea out of their mum's china, it would be 'burn baby burn'.

Don't get me wrong, i realise its a very important song for the band. Heck its one of the main reasons people probably listen to the band but is it a 'good' song when compared to the rest of ash's ouvre?

If I never heard BBB ever again I could live with it. If I never heard ALLO or warmer than fire or Lost In You or Dead Disciples or Darkside lightside or any of the 'proper' songs again i would want to dash my brains all over wet cement so my death could be forever immortalised with a small plaque that read 'Jed Shepherd died because people of the myth that BBB is a good song'. there is also nothing wrong with the casual ash fan and it sounds like I'm being elitist and a music snob but it makes my eyes bleed to see some of these votes. do you only own 2 albums? intergalactic sonic sevens and some kind of audio self-help album to help you make friends down the park?

This myth is perpetuated by the fact BBB is a great live song. Oh its brilliant live. you can't beat it live... but its the only track I consistantly skip out of the entire ash catalog. SILF (an acronym for stay in love forever, not 'shepherd i'd like to fuck') I could listen to on repeat until the world falls down around me and all thats left is me and the cockroaches slow dancing on the scorched earth fly-kicking zombies to the syncopation of the chorus.

its such a simple song. such an obvious and simple sentiment. I think the fact its a B-side gives it so much resonance. It's like the unnoticed kid in your class that grows up to discover 65 new species of plantlife at the bottom of the ocean. Its not for your casual, but for a specific niche its mind-blowing.

If BBB is the LOVE of Ash fans, 'Stay in Love Forever' is our UNREQUITED LOVE. its the opposite of BBB both in popularity and integrity. its fan-fucking-tastic thats what it is.

this reads like a rant - an old-skool jed rant at that! - but I'm trying to wake you up to the quirky brilliance of this song.

yeah its throwaway pop, but like anything thrown away, someones going to find it and cherish it and make it theirs. so thats what I've done. It's my song now. Im fact don't vote for it! I want it all to myself thanks!

I agree with Jed about Stay in Love Forever, which is (apart from Oh Yeah which we're not allowed to vote for) my favourite Ash song. The top four were easy for me;

I certainly feel the A to Z stuff ranks amongst their best stuff, but it's not as familiar as the earlier tracks so it's more difficullt for them to have a larger bearing on the rankings.
